Verizon Outage: A huge outage at Verizon is causing iPhones and Android devices to enter SOS mode, which prevents users from making mobile calls unless they utilize WiFi calling.

Verizon is currently investigating a significant outage that has led to more than 100,000 service issue reports from customers across the United States on Monday morning.

As of approximately 11 a.m. ET, many users have claimed to be without service, according to data from Downdetector, a website dedicated to tracking technological outages.

Verizon has acknowledged the problem, with a spokesperson stating, "We are aware of an issue impacting service for some customers." Ilya Hemlin, the company representative, reassured users that "our engineers are engaged and we are working quickly to solve the issue," in a statement to USA Today.

Social Media Buzz Over Verizon Outage

Many affected users have taken to social media platforms to voice their concerns regarding the apparent outage. One user on X (formerly Twitter) expressed frustration, stating, "Is @Verizon down for anyone else right now? My service disappeared at 10 a.m., and no amount of restarting or switching into + out of airplane mode is helping with the signal."

Verizon's customer service account on X, @VerizonSupport, has been actively responding to numerous users reporting service issues on Monday morning, acknowledging the widespread disruption and providing updates as they become available, as mentioned in the USA Today report

Impact on Devices: Stuck in SOS Mode

A huge consequence of the Verizon outage is that many iPhones and Android devices have entered SOS mode, restricting users from making mobile calls unless they utilize WiFi calling.

This service interruption reportedly began around 9:30 a.m. ET, with Downdetector indicating that around 100,000 users are experiencing difficulties connecting to the network, as mentioned in a report by Bleeping Computer.

When a phone enters SOS mode, it signifies that the device cannot establish a connection to a cellular network, permitting only emergency calls.

A Chicago-based user tweeted, "SOS on my phone, I have Verizon and am in Chicago. What is the outage and what are the updates? I need my phone to work." Another user from Phoenix commented, "Phoenix area cell outage?? Several phones on Verizon showing SOS can only call using WiFi."
