The United States Postal Service (USPS) has announced that all 31,000 of its post offices will be closed for one day in October. The whole country will be closed on Columbus Day, which is October 13, 2025. In some states and cities, this day is also called Indigenous Peoples' Day.


People were worried about how the postal service would work after the government shut down, but USPS told customers that mail delivery services were not affected.

Columbus Day falls on October 13 this year. In the United States, it is one of the 11 federal holidays. The USPS has added it to its official list of holidays when it will be closed, so all post offices will be closed for 24 hours, as per a report by The Sun.

Will a government shutdown have an effect on USPS services?


USPS said that a government shutdown would not affect its operations, even though people were worried. The agency said, "US Postal Service operations will not be interrupted in the event of a government shutdown, and all Post Offices will remain open for business as usual.” "Because we are an independent entity that is generally funded through the sale of our products and services, and not by tax dollars, our services will not be impacted by a government shutdown,” as per a report by The Sun.

What are the next federal holidays?


After Columbus Day, postal services will be affected by Veterans Day on November 11, Thanksgiving on November 27, and Christmas Day on December 25. Chase Bank also said that its branches would be closed on Columbus Day. TD Bank, on the other hand, will stay open, as per a report by The Sun.
