Why are weather recommendations being issued?

After a short period of respite from intense cold in certain regions of the country, chilly winds and weather recommendations are being issued on Thursday across the Northeast and the Midwest before a new winter storm is predicted to unleash a greater amount of snowfall and bitterly cold temperatures.

With the storm moving eastwards on Thursday evening and Friday, several parts of Pennsylvania, Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, New Jersey, and Maryland could be seeing between 3 to 6 inches of snow. The weather is predicted to be snarling traffic leading to delays in travel in Washington D.C., Philadelphia, New York City, and Baltimore.

In the meantime, the Gulf Coast and the Southern Plains could be expecting a short break from the cold Thursday with temperatures returning to the 60s and 70s, as per the National Weather Service. The halt will be for a brief period as another bitterly cold arctic airmass is spreading across the US eastern half before the weekend.

The Pacific Northwest will be continuing to be pummelled by a strip of frozen rain and heavy snowfall in the mountains throughout the weekend. The most heavy snowfall is predicted over the Lower Columbia Bain and the Cascades, where quarter to half inches of snow is probable through the morning of Saturday. Rain along the Washington and Oregon coastline could be leading to flash flooding since the ground is extremely saturated, as per the weather service.
