US weather forecast: Millions of Americans are under Freeze Warnings

Freeze Warnings have issued for millions of Americans as icy Arctic air mass swept across the US.

Americans across the US woke up to frigid temperatures on Wednesday, as an icy Arctic air mass swept across the nation. Forecasts indicate that temperatures are unlikely to see a significant rise throughout the day, with yet another drastic temperature plunge expected overnight and into Thursday.

The central and northern Plains have been grappling with this bone-chilling cold for several days. As a cold front advances south and eastward, temperatures in its wake will sharply decline.

In response, Freeze Warnings and Freeze Watches were initially issued for over 88 million Americans on Wednesday. Although many of these warnings have since lapsed as temperatures show signs of climbing, several million individuals residing along the Interstate 95 corridor stretching from the Northeast to the Southeast will be subjected to renewed Freeze Warnings and Watches that will extend through Thursday morning.

Hundreds of firefighters aided by aircraft on Tuesday battled a wind-driven wildfire that damaged or destroyed at least nine buildings in rural Southern California and prompted authorities to order 4,000 residents to evacuate. Gusty Santa Ana winds spread the Highland Fire over about 4 square miles (10 square kilometers) of brushy hills near the Riverside County hamlet of Aguanga after it broke out Monday afternoon.

Three structures were confirmed destroyed and six others were damaged, Riverside County Fire Department spokesperson Jeff LaRusso said.
