US underwater drone seized in Strait of Hormuz, claim Iran's Revolutionary Guards

An American submarine drone has been claimed to be seized by Iran's Revolutionary Guards in Strait of Hormuz on Sunday. This comes as Tehran has blockaded the region in the months-long Middle East war.

In a statement as per state TV, the IRGC naval forces said, "Through a coordinated, complex operation involving intelligence oversight and electronic warfare, IRGC naval forces' personnel successfully captured an advanced unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) belonging to the terrorist US military."

The drone was "operating in the Strait of Hormuz for espionage purposes", added the Iran's Revolutionary Guards. The captured drone is a Remus 600 autonomous underwater vehicle. It is "now in the hands of the force's specialists for data recovery".


This is the second US submarine drone captured in the strait this month. Before the Middle East war started in late February and shipping was choked off, the strait played a highly crucial role in oil and gas trade. Since the outbreak of the conflict, Iran has maintained a blockade of the Hormuz strait, while the United States has imposed a counter-blockade of Iranian ports to keep a check.
