US Treasury confirms draft designs for Trump $1 coin to mark America’s 250th anniversary
The US Treasury Department has confirmed preliminary designs for a potential $1 coin featuring President Donald Trump, intended to coincide with America’s 250th anniversary in 2026.

“No fake news here. These first drafts honoring America’s 250th Birthday and @POTUS are real,” Beach posted on Friday. He added that more information would be released after the end of the ongoing federal government shutdown.
Legal questions around Trump coin approval
While the Treasury has confirmed the authenticity of the draft images, it remains unclear whether the Trump $1 coin will ever be minted. Current US law prohibits featuring a living president on currency until at least two years after their death. The only exception was Calvin Coolidge, who appeared on a half-dollar coin in 1926 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of US independence, making him the only living president to ever appear on US coinage.
Coin part of America 250 celebrations
The designs are part of broader plans to mark the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, also known as America 250. Other commemorative events have already begun, including a military parade in Washington, D.C., earlier this year honoring the US Army’s 250th anniversary.According to a Treasury spokesperson, while the shared drafts are legitimate, a final design has not yet been selected. CNN also reports that any minting decision would need to navigate both legal restrictions and official approval processes.
