US stock market main indexes suffered tough trading day at the Wall Street on Friday. Investors closed the week as the sell-off for tech stocks got even worse on worries that the frenzy around AI sent prices too high. Intel sank almost 29 per cent for its worst day since 1974 after giving a profit forecast that fell below analysts’ expectations. Amazon’s latest profit report raised more worries about how much companies are spending on their AI Investments. Treasury yields sank as investors searched for safer things to own, even though oil prices rose.

However, outside of tech, stocks were more resilient as many rallied after reporting stronger profits for the summer than analysts expected. Nearly as many stocks rose within the S&P 500 index rose as fell.

Oil supermajors Exxon Mobil and Chevron both beat quarterly profit expectations, benefiting from soaring profit margins as a result of energy supply disruptions arising from the US-Israeli war with Iran and Russia's war in Ukraine.

ExxonMobil climbed 2.2 per cent, and Chevron added 1.8 per cent after the oil giants reported stronger profit for the summer than analysts expected.
