Threats of railroad strikes continue to grow in the US as the unions, and major companies refuse to agree on the proposal put forth by President Joe Biden's administration. Reports have suggested that a rail strike could trigger a massive economic slowdown in the US, and the pressure on the White House continues to grow.

A Fox News report suggested that the rail strike could begin on Friday if the government fails to crack a deal with the stakeholders. Per reports, Marty Walsh, the Labor Secretary to the President, represented the government in the talks, while Joe Biden was in contact with the parties involved.

The Association of American Railroads (AAR) has warned that if all the rail strike takes place, losses would be massive, approximately more than $2 billion per day. Apart from the losses, the strikes would cause humongous inconvenience and infrastructure breakdown for corporates as well as the common public. AAR has claimed that modes of transport other than the railroads are not capable enough to mitigate the damage to the supply chain, especially for consumer goods.

Media reports have suggested that congress is closely monitoring the situation and will get involved in negotiations if the corporates and the unions fail to agree on a proposal. The railroad crisis has exposed administrative flaws in the Democrat government, and with the midterm polls scheduled for November, the Biden administration finds itself in a vulnerable position.

Experts have suggested that the four rail unions coordinately decided the time of the strike to exercise maximum pressure on the administration. Some reports also suggest that the unions may call for the strike a day before the mid-term elections. Many believe that the situation escalated after two of the National Mediation Board (NMB) members shockingly terminated the board-guided mediation two months before the expiry date, triggering the countdown for the strike.
