US procures anti-radiation drugs worth $290 million after Russian President Vladimir Putin's nuclear threats

The United States government has procured anti-radiation drugs worth upwards of $290 million this week after Russian President Vladimir Putin had threatened to use nuclear weapons against its enemies.

US President Joe Biden warned that prospects of Armageddon could rise after President Putin's threats amid Russia’s ongoing war with Ukraine.

Media reports confirmed that the Depart of Health and Human Services (HHS) was procuring a massive supply of anti-radiation drugs, most of which was Nplate. The department was ramping up measures to protect lives in case of nuclear and radiological emergencies. Nplate, also known as romiplostim, is an approved drug that can blood cell injuries caused by acute radiation syndrome. The drugs can be prescribed to children as well as adults.





Funded the massive procurement valued at $290 million via Project BioShield, a law enacted in 2004.

The law facilitates necessary investment to encourage the development of critical medical countermeasures during national security emergencies.

While the procurement appeared to have amplified within this week, an HHS spokesperson claimed that it was an ongoing process and the procurement was not accelerated due to the situation in Ukraine. However, the POTUS approved the massive procurement of Nplate following Putin’s threats, and Biden publicly admitted that the Russian leader was not joking.
