CNN hosted the first presidential debate in Atlanta. President Biden appeared to be uncomfortable from the beginning. A series of gaffes throughout the 90-minute debate proved to be embarrassing for the president. Among the many errors, he said that his late son had died in Iraq and that he beat medicare. Donald Trump appeared to be aggressive and he took on his opponent on many occasions. Biden’s health concerns have been in the news for the past few months. Many law makers who had interacted with him had pointed towards a visible cognitive decline in Biden.
Various national polls had given Trump a slight edge over Biden. This debate was an opportunity for Biden to take a lead in the poll survey numbers and dismiss rumors regarding this health issues. However, he was found to be nervous and unable to speak coherently on many occasions.
Democrats in panic?
Many democrats and the donors supporting the party have called to replace Biden on the ballot box. Former New York State Senator Alessandra Biaggi pointed out that the debate was a disaster for Biden and the Democrats. Many of the reactions supported replacing Biden. Some of the names that are doing the rounds to replace Biden are Vice-President Kamala Harris, Governor of Maryland Wes Moore and Governor of Michigan Gretchen Whitmer. Former First Lady Michelle Obama had dismissed suggestions to contest the election.
Many Biden supporters countered the demands to replace him and pointed out that he has defeated Trump in the past and will do it yet again in the upcoming presidential election.
