US President Joe Biden meets two American Holocaust survivors during Israel trip

On the first day of his official trip to Israel, US President Joe Biden met two American Holocaust survivors at Yad Vashem Holocaust Remembrance Center. He chatted with them for over 10 minutes.

US President Joe Biden, who is on his official trip to Israel, visited Yad Vashem Holocaust Remembrance Center on Wednesday. During thee visit to Israel's national Holocaust memorial, Biden met and spoke with two US Holocaust survivors - Rena Quint and Dr. Giselle "Gita" Cycowicz.
After meeting with the US President, the two Holocaust survivors revealed what they discussed with Biden.

Cycowicz, who is 96-year-old, called Biden's action an act of his kindness. Cycowicz stated that she told the US President she was grateful to the United States during her conversation with Biden. She also emphasised on the importance of Israel as a home to Jewish people.


Recalling her feelings, Rena Quint stated she was very excited and scared to meet Joe Biden. Quint said she was only 10 years old when she moved to America following the war.

Joe Biden had spent several minutes talking to the two US Holocaust survivors. Interestingly, when Biden approached the women, he urged them to remain seated on their chairs and knelt before them while talking.

The US President met the two American-Israel Holocaust survivors on the first day of his trip to Israel. Before meeting the two women, the US President rekindled the "Eternal Flame" in the Hall of Remembrance of the museum. He also laid a wreath on a slab of marble under which the Holocaust victims' ashes were buried.

During the event, the Ankor Children's Choir sang "A Walk to Caesarea," written by Hannah Szenes. Along with this, Cantor Samuel Berlad recited the Jewish prayer, "El Maleh Rahamim," in honor of those, who lost their lives in the Holocaust.

After all the ceremonies, Biden signed the visitor book of the Yad Vashem Holocaust Remembrance Center and stressed that the memories of the Holocaust are essential in current times. He said that people "must never" forget the Holocaust.
