US President Joe Biden seems to have stirred up a political storm after some classified documents were found on Monday in an office he used before his campaign.
Although the president didn't respond to questions on Tuesday over the matter, Richard Sauber, who is a special counsel to Biden, said that the documents were turned over in a timely manner.
The personal lawyers of Biden have also been cooperating with the Justice Department and the archives, Sauber added.
The House Republicans look to probe what they call is different treatment between GOP and Democratic presidents as some documents were also seized at Mar-a-Lago after former US President Donald Trump left the White House. Trump has also sought to compare the two cases.
On Truth Social, Trump posted, “When is the FBI going to raid the many homes of Joe Biden, perhaps even the White House? These documents were definitely not declassified.”
The documents
The documents found at Biden’s old office were unearthed on November 2 in a "locked closet" when the personal attorneys of the president were packing files, as per the White House. The office is located at the Penn Biden Center in Washington, D.C.

In a statement, the White House said, “The documents were not the subject of any previous request or inquiry by the archives. Since that discovery, the president’s personal attorneys have cooperated with the Archives and the Department of Justice in a process to ensure any Obama-Biden administration records are appropriately in the possession of the Archives."
Although the number or type of documents has not been disclosed, the White House said it was a “small number.”
