Defending champion Aryna Sabalenka will battle home favorite Jessica Pegula in Thursday’s US Open semifinals, while Naomi Osaka faces Amanda Anisimova in an intense clash for a place in the final. Sabalenka, who defeated Pegula in last year’s New York final, has yet to capture a Grand Slam in 2025 despite reaching two finals. Meanwhile, Osaka has rediscovered her best form since returning from maternity leave, making her deepest run at a major in four years. Anisimova, on the other hand, continues her fearless surge, highlighted by a redemption victory over Iga Swiatek after painful Wimbledon 6-0, 6-0 drubbing earlier this summer.

Sabalenka heads into the semifinals with the advantage of extra rest after benefiting from a quarterfinal walkover when Marketa Vondrousova. The Belarusian top seed has powered through the draw without dropping a set, reaching her fifth consecutive US Open semifinal. Embracing the pressure of her No. 1 status, Sabalenka appears in peak form and carries a dominant head-to-head record into her clash with Pegula. She has won seven of their nine encounters, including both Grand Slam meetings, making her the clear favorite as she seeks to defend her crown in New York.

Osaka's Grand Slam speaks volumes as every time she has advanced beyond the quarterfinals, she has gone on to win the title. That includes two previous triumphs at the US Open, cementing her reputation as one of the game’s most clutch performers on the biggest stage. Now back in the semifinals at Flushing Meadows, Osaka will look to extend that flawless record in her comeback journey.
