The US open, one of the splashiest tennis events of the year is set to commence on Sunday, with 500 pros vying for glory and their one true ‘American Dream’. Slated to be held at Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York, the tournament will go on till September 7, with new rule books for mixed doubles.

Jannik Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka will be out to defend their respective singles crowns, while Carlos Alcaraz, Naomi Osaka and veteran spell-binder Novak Djokovic will be on their heels to snatch the trophy away, Business Insider reported.

US Open 2025 prize money sees biggest increase in history

Last year (2024), the US Tennis Association (USTA) offered $75 million in prize money, calling it the "largest purse in tennis history." For 2025, the total prize money has jumped to $90 million, a 20% increase from last year. This is now the highest prize pool in tennis history, according to the USTA press release.

USTA said they made sure there were double-digit percentage increases for all rounds of all events and gave extra prize money to those reaching deep into the singles draws. Players also got help with reduced out-of-pocket costs — each will receive a $1,000 travel stipend and two hotel rooms at the official player hotel (or $600 per day if staying elsewhere). In total, this adds up to $5 million in support, as per the report by Business Insider.
