Some events become identified with a place due to their popularity and mass appeal. The Blue Angels show is a typical example. The air show, started in 1981 as part of the San Francisco Fleet Week, has turned into one of America's largest annual shows in the country by the Armed Forces. San Francisco Fleet Week gets about a million visitors.
The naval flight demonstration squad, the Blue Angels, monopolizes the SF sky from the Golden Gate to Alcatraz for a spectacular aerial acrobatics’ demonstration. People love it, and the air show is now one of the city's loudest traditions.
The crowd loves the air show.
"What you see here is the kind of thing usually seen on TV," said Oakland resident Sayra Yepez excitedly about the show. Nothing beats seeing such a spectacle live! she added.
