US: Multiple deaths reported in Indiana, Georgia after severe weather conditions

On Monday morning, damage assessments were being conducted in Georgia after the weather on Sunday tore across a portion of the state including the Atlanta area.

Multiple deaths have been reported in Indiana and Georgia following severe weather conditions which also witnessed tornadoes which tore paths of devastation from the Midwest to the South on Sunday. The weather also left over half a million people without any electricity.

A home in Lost River Township, Indiana was hit by a suspected tornado, according to Monty Wolf with Martin County Emergency Management. As per reports, a couple was inside the home at the time and the husband was pronounced dead at the scene while the wife was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

As per FOX 59 Indianapolis, even the area around the couple’s home was described as rural with many trees that were downed by the storms. Moreover, on Sunday, tornadoes were also spotted in other parts of Indiana and flattened buildings were witnessed in Greenwood. Hail of the size of tennis balls were also reported across Indiana and Arkansas regions.


On Monday morning, damage assessments were being conducted in Georgia after the weather on Sunday tore across a portion of the state including the Atlanta area. Fox 4 in Atlanta also reported that a tree fell and crushed a man in Atlanta’s northeast east. The man was identified as George Heery Jr., 55, a well-known Atlanta realtor. Other injuries were also reported after a tree fell on a car. Flights were delayed or suspended at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Sunday.

Severe weather threat spanned from Ohio Valley to the South on Sunday which triggered at least 450 reports of damaging winds and massive hail. The storms also left over 700,000 people without power on Sunday and lasted until Monday morning.
