US midterm elections 2026 results are out and President Donald Trump will have to now handle opposition Democratic Party controlled the US Congress -- the Senate, and House of Representatives. The Republican leader has reportedly asked his close aides whether to remove Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth from his incumbent role following the resounding defeat.

Apart from Hegseth, head of U.S. Central Command Brad Cooper, Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Caine have played pivotal role strategize American warfare tactics against Iran.

There are chances that both head of U.S. Central Command Brad Cooper, and Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Caine will be held responsible for midterm election losses, CBS reported.

However, CBS reported citing sources that President Trump is yet to make any decision on Hegseth who has already experienced impeachment attempts from Democrats before midterm polls. There are reports that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis may replace Hegseth in the role of Defense Secretary.

Earlier in September, Republican U.S. Representative Thomas Massie filed articles of impeachment against Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, accusing him of abusing his office by executing an order for hostilities against Iran without approval by Congress.

The impeachment resolution is unlikely to pass, but the maneuver by the Kentucky Republican could force a vote in the chamber that could be difficult for some of his fellow Republicans as they prepare to leave Washington before November's midterm elections.

Massie filed his articles of impeachment against Hegseth as privileged, meaning the House must take them up within two legislative days.

Several polls have showed the war that began with February 28 attacks on Iran by U.S. and Israeli forces have been unpopular with voters. Members of Congress, mostly Democrats, have voted repeatedly in favor of resolutions calling on Trump to end the conflict unless he obtains congressional support, but they have not led to a cessation of hostilities.

Ahead of the midterm elections, opinion polls showed that Trump's Republicans would face an uphill struggle to keep their control of the House and Senate when voters go to the polls on November 3.

Trump's popularity has declined since he launched the war, which has disrupted oil shipments and pushed fuel prices near record highs, hitting U.S. household finances.
