Several countries including the US are on high alert after the new Covid variant is once again wreaking havoc in China. In response to apprehensions about the "lack of transparent data" flowing from Beijing, the US administration may impose new Covid measures on visitors from China, US officials said on Tuesday.

The move comes after various countries including Japan, India and Malaysia announced strict action against people coming from China after citing a surge in cases. Amid the rising cases, Japan said that people coming from China would require a negative COVID-19 test upon arrival. While Malaysia implemented further tracking and monitoring procedures.

As per the officials, the continued COVID-19 outbreaks in China and the lack of transparent data being supplied by the PRC have raised growing worries in the international community. As the virus spreads mostly unchecked across the 1.4 billion-person nation of China, certain hospitals and funeral homes there are currently running out of capacity. Taiwan will also test arrivals from mainland China, the administration announced in a statement.

The authorities mentioned the actions taken by Malaysia and Japan, noting that the World Health Organization and India have also expressed worry about the situation in China.
