US House passes bill on marriage equality.
US house passed a bill to codify the right to interracial and same-sex marriages on Tuesday. There was a burst of applause in the chamber as the final vote count was revealed. The count was 267-157, and 47 Republicans joined every Democrat to support the bill. A notable conservative was Rep. Liz Cheney representing Wyoming. Her sister is gay, and she was at odds with her parents and the sister, and her stance was the opposite previously. She changed her opinion in 2021 and stated that she was wrong.

House Minority Leader from California, Kevin McCarthy, also voted no regarding the legislation on Tuesday. Rep. Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y. stated that marriage should be done without giving any special importance to sex, race, ethnicity, national origin or any sort of discrimination based on gender. Nadler further said that it would repeal the Defense of Marriage Act as it was found to be unconstitutional by the Supreme Court.

The government must recognise and respect the marriage of all people, who build their lives with each other and marriage equality is and should be considered as the law of the land, Nadler said. Roe v. Wade was reversed by the Supreme Court last month, and concern amongst advocates and lawmakers came about for the legal fate of same-sex marriages. Justice Clarence Thomas' separate opinion stated that the court must revisit its opinion and ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges, 2015, that guaranteed same-sex marriage nationwide.

The opinion of Thomas shook the supporters of same-sex marriage. The majority of the court endured pain to overturn Roe v. Wade but said that it must not be an indication for rulings in the future.

On Monday, Steny Hoyer, House Majority Leader, stated that Dobbs v. Jackson shows why it's important to ensure that the federal law protects the constitutional rights that the state legislatures might threaten the Republicans control.
