US gas prices jump above $3 as Iran conflict pushes oil to one-year high
The average price of gasoline in the United States jumped 11 cents overnight. The new average price is about $3.11 per gallon, according to motor club AAA reported by AP News. AAA said the average gas price across the U.S. is now around $3.11 per gallon.

Rising gas prices in the US

The switching to summer fuel blends by oil refiners, like every change of season, was keeping the Gas prices high even before the US- Israeli onslaught on Iran commenced. Now with the war sending the whole of the middle- east into a security paralysis—with world’s biggest oil producer Saudi Aramco already attacked—-oil prices have steeped even higher.

Tuesday saw oil futures soar past their one year highs, with retaliatory attacks by Iran on Saudi, Dubai and Qatar adding to the rising prices, market reports said.

Oil prices jump due to US-Iran War

Benchmark U.S. crude oil rose 8.6% to $77.36 per barrel, as stated by wtopnews citing AP News. Brent crude oil, which is the international benchmark, increased 6.7% to $81.29 per barrel. Global oil prices jumped at the start of the week because investors are worried the war could disrupt the global supply of crude oil.

In a post on X, Phil Stewart cited a Reuters report which said that U.S. average retail gasoline prices are expected to rise above $3 per gallon on Monday, as US- Israel alliance’s tensions with Iran continue to disrupt global oil flows. It would lead to inflation, which could sound alarm bells for POTUS Trump considering his already faltering approval ratings.

President Donald Trump has repeatedly claimed credit for lowering gasoline prices since returning to office last year. Reuters noted that Trump has often made these claims falsely. GasBuddy analyst Patrick De Haan said average gas prices could move above $3 per gallon for the first time this year.

De Haan said prices last crossed $3 nationwide in November 2025. Gas prices were as low as $2.85 per gallon in February, according to GasBuddy. “Oil will move first. Gasoline will follow — but gradually,” De Haan wrote in a blog post after the strikes on Iran.
