US FDA recalls Lyon Magnus's Oatly Oat Milk, 52 other items. Here's why

In a stern measure, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recalled popular Oatly Oat Milk and 52 other items of Lyons Magnus due to potential bacterial contamination.

After the preliminary root cause analysis found that these products did not meet the commercial sterility specifications, the FDA served the recall notice. No illness was reported to date of the announcement, but FDA has advised buyers not to consume the recalled products.

California-based Lyon Magnus is the renowned producer of nutritional and coffee beverages under its name. It includes brands like Oatly, Premier Protein and Glucerna. Other brands produced by this California-based company listed under the recall include Aloha, Imperial, Kate Farms, Glucerna, Intelligentsia, Lyons Ready Care, MRE, Pirq, Kate Farms and Lyons Barista Style.


FDA's concern
The FDA's primary concern was the contamination of Cronobacter sakazakii, which may cause common symptoms such as fever, vomiting and urinary tract infections. In more severe cases, Cronobacter sakazakii may lead to meningitis and bloodstream infections.

Children, senior citizens aged above 65, and people with weak immune systems are likely to be susceptible to illness caused by this contamination, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
