US Elections: Donald Trump to skip the Presidential Debate against Kamala Harris on September 10?

Former President Donald Trump has cast uncertainty on his participation in the upcoming presidential debate against Vice President Kamala Harris, scheduled for September 10.

Former President Donald Trump has cast doubt on his participation in the upcoming presidential debate against Vice President Kamala Harris, scheduled for September 10.

In a post on Truth Social late Sunday, Trump expressed skepticism about debating Harris on ABC News, citing what he described as biased reporting and a past controversy involving the network.

Trump’s criticism targeted ABC News, which he accused of being biased and criticized for its handling of political coverage. He specifically denounced ABC’s Jonathan Karl and questioned the integrity of the network's debate moderation.

Trump also referenced an incident from the 2016 election cycle involving ABC News contributor Donna Brazile, who was found to have leaked debate questions to Hillary Clinton’s campaign.

“Why would I do the Debate against Kamala Harris on that network?” Trump questioned in his post. He further mentioned, “Will panelist Donna Brazile give the questions to the Marxist Candidate like she did for Crooked Hillary Clinton?”

Trump Questions George Stephanopoulos’s Involvement

In his post, Trump also raised concerns about the potential involvement of George Stephanopoulos, an ABC anchor with whom Trump is currently in litigation. Although there is no indication that Stephanopoulos will moderate the debate, Trump’s remarks reflect ongoing tensions with the network, as per a report by TV Insider.

“Where is Liddle’ George Slopadopolus hanging out now?” Trump asked, adding to the speculation and controversy surrounding the debate. Trump’s post concluded with a challenge to the debate organizers, questioning why Harris had declined other network invitations, including those from Fox News, NBC News, and CNN. “Stay tuned!!!” he wrote, leaving the door open for further developments.

Debate Scheduled and Debate Dynamics

The September 10 debate was initially planned between Trump and President Joe Biden. Following Biden’s replacement on the Democratic ticket by Kamala Harris, the debate was confirmed to proceed with Harris. The debate is set to take place in Philadelphia and will be moderated by David Muir and Linsey Davis.

Despite Trump’s expressed reservations, both sides have confirmed the debate will go ahead as planned.
Trump had previously suggested additional debates on Fox News and NBC News, but the Harris campaign agreed only to the ABC News-hosted event. The vice presidential debate between Governor Tim Walz and Senator JD Vance is scheduled for October 1, hosted by CBS News in New York City.
