Recently, US president Joe Biden launched a student loan forgiveness program. Unsatisfied with the policy, Six Republican-led states filed a suit in September challenging its legality and pleaded to grant a preliminary injunction to halt student loan cancellation until the lawsuit's final judgment.

On Wednesday, US District Judge Henry Edward Autrey, appointed by former President George W. Bush, will hear the preliminary injunction motion.

Student Loan Forgiveness Program

On Tuesday, the Biden administration released a snippet of the application. Before the federal student loan payments restart in January after three years, they aspire to give debt relief worth up to $20,000 to millions of students before.

The states that filed the lawsuits argued that the administration does not have the legal authority to forgive the broad student loan.

Additionally, they argued that the policy would hurt the revenues of a student loan servicer based in Missouri, MOHELA, and states financials.

The same day, the Department of Education changed its policy, making the federal student loans guaranteed by the government and backed by private lenders illegible for debt relief.
