The US Department of Transportation has recently announced that it is now withdrawing support for the New York congestion pricing plan, which opens up an all-new chapter in the program's history.

The US Department of Transportation to close down support for New York City's first-in-the-nation congestion pricing plan through a letter from Secretary Sean Duffy. This marks yet another new development around congestion pricing's history and increases fears that the program could be shut off entirely, according to an NBC report.

DOT announces rescinding of congestion pricing approval

The US Department of Transportation simply specified that they are withdrawing their support for this plan, but has to finitely mention by when this program could get terminated. Moreover, the handling of congestion pricing is operated by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, even though it is the DOT that sanctioned the approval in the first place. Meanwhile, MTA Chair and CEO Janno Lieber has filed a lawsuit in this regard to ensure that things remain unchanged and reverse Trump's decision to stop congestion pricing.

One of the biggest projects that could be affected by the potential end of congestion pricing is the second phase of the Second Avenue subway extension, which may cause enough problems of its own. The halt of the program would affect multiple subway stations and some C&F lies across Brooklyn and Manhattan, says NBC.
