US Ambassador Eric Garcetti rides Delhi Metro, emphasizes US-India tech collaboration

US Ambassador Eric Garcetti experienced the Delhi Metro's efficiency as he journeyed along the Magenta Line from RK Puram to Okhla NSIC Metro Station. During his ride, he engaged with fellow passengers, underlining the importance of a clean and efficient metro system. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) shared images of this remarkable commute on social media.

"His Excellency Mr. Eric M. Garcetti, Ambassador of the United States of America to India, took a ride in Delhi Metro today from RK Puram to Okhla NSIC Metro Station on Magenta Line. He also interacted with passengers during his travel & appreciated clean and efficient Metro system," the DMRC posted on X.

Furthermore, Ambassador Garcetti's interaction with passengers included taking selfies with some of them. Several Delhi Metro officials were present to facilitate the smooth exchange.


In a separate address at the "TechSurge: India's Deep Tech Transformation" conference, organized by Celesta Capital and US-India Business Council, Ambassador Garcetti expressed the collaborative spirit between the United States and India in the realm of technology.

He cited a pioneering project funded by the USAID agency, emphasizing an innovative application that detects tuberculosis (TB). As he described, "as an Indian, you can cough into the phone and send a recording of that cough - and, with 85 per cent (and growing) accuracy, detect whether you have TB - from any village, any town, anywhere in India." This groundbreaking development aligns with India's ambition to eliminate TB by 2025, a goal that the US is keen to support, given that a quarter of global TB cases are within India's borders.

Ambassador Garcetti highlighted another significant collaboration in the healthcare sector: the development of a vaccine for dengue fever that covers all four strains. This achievement, involving three Indian companies, has the potential to transform the healthcare landscape by combatting a disease that has affected people worldwide.
