At a time when the US and NATO are getting sucked more and more into the Russia- Ukraine War, the US Air Force has released the first in-flight pictures of its new futuristic-looking nuclear stealth bomber B-21 Raider. It is capable of carrying missiles with nuclear warheads and it is significant because Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that if the existence of his country is at stake, he may be forced to use the nuclear weapon.

First images of B-21 Raider

According to the 'New York Post', the U.S. Air Force released the first in-flight photos of its newest nuclear stealth bomber, the B-21 Raider, on Wednesday.
The stealth bomber is expected to be the “backbone” of military air operations from next year. It was unveiled last year. The bomber was pictured during ongoing ground and air testing at Edwards Air Force Base in California.

Capable of carrying nuclear weapons

Appearing before a Senate Armed Services Committee recently, Andrew Hunter, Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition said that the flight test program was proceeding well. He also said that the bomber was doing what flight test programs were designed to do.

The bomber got its name from the 1942 Doolittle Raid over Tokyo. It is capable of carrying nuclear and conventional payloads making it more advanced than any current aircraft.

If media reports are to be believed Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota will be the central operating base and training center. Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri and Dyess Air Force Base in Texas will be the backup bases in the release. According to the Air Force, B-21 is the first new US bomber aircraft in more than 30 years and is one of six under production.
