Brian Thompson's Murder

Thompson, aged 50, was gunned down on a sidewalk near the Hilton on Sixth Avenue. Surveillance footage showed the shooter, wearing a mask, calmly approaching Thompson from behind before firing multiple shots with a silenced handgun. The assailant fled on an e-bike.

Investigators recovered bullets with inscriptions, such as “deny,” “depose” and “defend.” These words align with a book critical of health insurance practices. Surveillance also captured the suspected gunman’s face and linked him to a hostel on the Upper West Side.

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch confirmed that Thompson was intentionally targeted. His wife revealed that the family had recently received threats related to his role as CEO of UnitedHealthcare. Thompson’s promotion in 2021 and subsequent prominence may have contributed to the threats.
