Ukrainian Mi-8 helicopter crew destroys Russian Shahed-136 Attack Drone with Minigun as Kyiv mounts attack on Moscow; viral video shows Russian drone in flames

In a fresh development from the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, a crew member of a Ukrainian helicopter has shot down a Russian Shahed-136/Geran-2 long-range OWA-UAV with a side-mounted M134 Minigun rotary machine gun. The Ukrainian Mi-8 helicopter crew destroyed the Russian drone mid-air using a side-mounted M134 Minigun. A video of the incident went viral on the social media platform X. The 14-second clip, shared on November 12, 2025, was apparently captured from an open terrain.

In the video, the door gunner on a Mil Mi-8 multirole helicopter with the Ukrainian Air Force is using his M134 minigun to shoot down a Russian Shahed-136 attack drone. The recent interception highlights Kyiv’s adaptive defenses against intensified Russian drone attacks on infrastructure since 2022.





A new, first-of-its-kind "drone wall" built to defeat Russia's most menacing weapons before they can reach cities and civilians is set to be deployed in Ukraine soon, its maker told Business Insider.

Ukraine's first 'drone wall'

Ukraine has initiated a major step to defeat Moscow’s deadly weapons before they can reach cities and civilians, giving Ukraine a new layer of protection against the worsening Russian air attacks. It has deployed a new, first-of-its-kind "drone wall," which is set to be deployed in the war-torn country soon, its maker told Business Insider. Atreyd, the Western company, has developed the system.

According to the founder of ‘drone wall’ maker Atreyd, it comprises dozens of small drones and is designed to intercept an incoming munition by blowing it out of the sky, "like a flying drone minefield." The founder further told Business Insider that Atreyd has already shipped the system to Ukraine, and it is likely to be operational within a few weeks. The founder called for anonymity to discuss the sensitive developments.

The deployment of the new drone wall will mark the first known instance of a defense of this type becoming operational in any conflict.

Russia makes gains in southern Ukraine

The Russian army overran three settlements in the southern Zaporizhzhia region of Ukraine, Kyiv’s top military commander said Wednesday (November 12, 2025). The latest development comes as Moscow’s forces expand their efforts to capture more Ukrainian territory.

According to news agency AP, dense fog enabled Russian troops to infiltrate Ukrainian positions in Zaporizhzhia, Gen. Oleksandr Syrskyi wrote on the messaging app Telegram, adding that Ukrainian units are locked in “grueling battles” to repel the Russian thrust.

He noted, however, that the fiercest battles are still in the besieged Ukrainian city of Pokrovsk, in the eastern Donetsk region, where close to half of all front-line clashes took place over the previous 24 hours. The cities of Kupiansk and Lyman in Ukraine’s northeastern Kharkiv region have also recently witnessed an uptick in combat.

Russia launched its full-scale invasion of its neighbor almost four years ago and now occupies roughly one-fifth of Ukrainian land. New U.S. sanctions that take aim at Russia’s oil sector, which is the mainstay of the Russian economy, are due to come into force on Nov. 21. Their purpose is to compel Russian President Vladimir Putin to accept a ceasefire.
