Ukraine launches 9/11 style attack on high-rise buildings in Russia; watch video

In a dramatic escalation of the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Ukrainian forces launched a series of drone attacks on the city of Kazan deep within Russian territory. The attack, which damaged multiple high-rise buildings, has drawn eerie comparisons to the September 11 terrorist attacks on New York's Twin Towers. While Ukraine did not officially claim responsibility, the modus operandi bears all the hallmarks of Ukrainian operations. Video footage of the strike that has gone viral on social media shows drones flying into upper floors of high-rise buildings, causing significant damage and explosions.

Drone Warfare

Eight drones were reported to have targeted the city, with six hitting residential high-rise buildings and one striking an industrial facility. The attacks occurred approximately 1,000 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, marking a significant escalation in the conflict. Fortunately, local authorities reported no casualties from the attacks, which occurred in the morning hours.

The drone strikes targeted multiple residential complexes in Kazan, located approximately 800 kilometers east of Moscow. Videos circulating on social media captured the moment drones impacted the buildings, leading to significant explosions and damage. The press service of Tatarstan's governor, Rustam Minnikhanov, confirmed the details of the attack, emphasizing the scale and precision of the strikes.

Kazan in temporary lockdown

In response to the attacks, emergency services were deployed to evacuate residents from the affected buildings. The mayor of Kazan announced the cancellation of all planned mass events for the weekend, and Kazan Airport temporarily halted all flight operations as a precautionary measure.

The incident comes after a separate Ukrainian drone strike on Friday killed six people in Russia's Kursk region. In retaliation, Moscow launched its own drone attacks on Ukraine overnight, with Ukrainian forces claiming to have shot down 57 drones.

This drone strike follows a recent exchange of missile attacks between Ukraine and Russia, where Ukraine accused Russia of causing civilian casualties in the Kursk region. Reports indicated that a missile strike in Kursk resulted in five deaths, including a child, while Ukraine claimed to have intercepted numerous Russian drones aimed at Kyiv.
