After dominating and taking a pair of opening-round wins in their 155 lb showdown, Klein used his sharp hands to open a cut, covering the Octagon floor with the blood of Rebecki after causing brutal swelling. In the third round, Klein, the southpaw, broke his right ankle in the third round of his lightweight clash with Mateusz Rebecki at UFC 321 in Abu Dhabi.
After dominating the majority of proceedings with crisp counter-striking, he was taken down midway through the third and final round. Unlike in the first two rounds, he was unable to get back to his feet. After the fight concluded, things became clearer, and it appeared that he could not walk, as he had to sit on the stool as he was announced as the victor.
In his post-fight interview with Daniel Cormier, Klein revealed he had snapped his ankle defending the takedown, according to The Sun. He had to be helped out of the cage by his team and medical staff before being transported backstage on a stretcher.
The decision was announced with Klein still seated on his stool and his hand raised while he was unable to make his way back to his feet. He may be the first fighter in UFC history to win a fight without getting to his feet.
