The youngest champion in UFC record is Raul Rosas Jr. The 18-year-old met his high expectations by beating Jay Perrin via request in the opening round of UFC 282 on Saturday night in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Rosas Jr. debuted in UFC as the main event of the preliminary card two months after his birthday. Rosas Jr. had never fought a competitor with Perrin's level of professional mixed martial arts experience. Perrin had 16 professional fights, more than twice as many as Rosas Jr., but was 0-5 in his appearances in the UFC, Bellator, and "Dana White's Contender Series."
Perrin started with a stunning hook and jab in left, but Rosas Jr. soon had the upper hand. The adolescent grabbed Perrin and slammed him to the ground after shooting deep for a takedown.
Moments later, Rosas Jr. got a back take and was looking for a rear-naked choke. Rosas Jr. eventually latched on the choke and caused Perrin to tap slightly more than halfway through Round 1, despite Perrin initially doing well to protect himself.

Thailand has a chequered history when it comes to MMA, the government banning the sport as "brutal and not boxing" in 2012 before slowly allowing promotions such as One Championship to stage events. Former wrester Hickman turned to coaching and helped to popularise MMA after arriving in Phuket in 2014. "There hadn't been any education on it. But that has changed. There are MMA events in Thailand and now Loma has been signed (to UFC) that's helped Thailand become a hotbed for MMA training," Hickman said.
