UFC 280 in Abu Dhabi was, as expected, a blockbuster event for the company. Dana White confirmed in the post-fight press conference that the Etihad Arena was sold out, with about 13,400 fans in attendance. The night's biggest winners were Islam Makhachev, Aljamain Sterling, and Sean O’Malley.
Islam Makhachev submitted former champion and number 1 contender Charles ‘Du Bronx’ Oliveria in the second round to become the undisputed Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Lightweight Champion. The new lightweight king was apparently emotional after his victory, as he remembered his long-time coach and Khabib Nurmagomedov’s father, the late Abdul Manap Nurmagomedov. He credited Abdul Manap and Khabib for preparing him for his victory.
During the post-fight interview with Daniel Cormier, Khabib said he considered Islam, pound-for-pound, the best fighter. Therefore, Khabib wants Islam to fight UFC Featherweight Champion Alexander Volkanovski on his home turf, Australia. During the interview, Islam singled out Volkanovski and made it clear to whom he wanted to defend his belt.

Thailand has a chequered history when it comes to MMA, the government banning the sport as "brutal and not boxing" in 2012 before slowly allowing promotions such as One Championship to stage events. There are MMA events in Thailand and now Loma has been signed (to UFC) that's helped Thailand become a hotbed for MMA training," Hickman said.

Aljamain Sterling landed a resounding victory over former two-time champ T.J. Dillashaw. On the other hand, Sugar Sean won a split decision against former champ Petr Yan. While many thought the split decision was unfair to Yan, it is likely that Sean could get a title shot against Aljo. However, the champ could also face Henry Cejudo, who’s been gunning for a UFC return for a while.
