U.S. Rep. Cori Bush, the Democratic Representative from St. Louis County, registered a staggering win over fellow Rep. Steve Rogers. She got a whopping 69.5% of the vote, with a vote count of 65,208. In St. Louis, Bush received 71.3% of the votes, emerging as a clear winner again.
The results of the primary in the first Congressional District, including parts of St. Louis County and St. Louis, were declared at 9:42 pm on Tuesday. Before these results, unofficial results showed Bush leading the race with two-thirds of the votes.
Bush will probably travel to Washington, DC, next year because this congressional district is largely Democratic. Because of this, whoever triumphs in the first primary also prevails in November. With a second victory in November, Bush would be qualified to serve as the district's representative in Washington, DC.
Remarking on her victory, Cori Bush said that people didn’t count her in. They believed she would never make the cut, but she has proved them wrong.
The election campaign saw her rival, Roberts, attack her on her voting record and her activities outside the chamber. However, in her campaign, Bush highlighted her work for the district, including the USD 1 billion in funding she helped the district receive in less than two years.
In addition, Bush has sponsored 15 pieces of legislation, including the one pertaining to abortion rights. Due to her actions outside of the chambers, she gained popularity. She camped outside the Capitol while also participating in pro-abortion demonstrations.

On the other hand, her rival Roberts’ campaign was attacked on the grounds of sexual assault charges lodged by two women. In neither of the cases, did Roberts face any charges. He did, however, reach a non-financial settlement with one victim and made a monetary payment to another.
Bush entered politics in 2020 after upstaging Lacy Clay in the primary. Clay had held the representative position since 2001, before which his father served the seat from 1969 to 2001. However, with the entry of Cori Bush, dynamics changed, and long-held traditions were broken.
With her latest win, Bush has cemented her position for continuing terms in the future too.
