Harris had a poor favorability rating and was trailing in the polls after Biden's withdrawal, but as time went on and more people learned about her, her popularity grew. Based on the total polling data from 538, Harris has a three-point national lead over Trump. Despite winning the national popular vote by 2.1 per cent, Hillary Clinton led Trump by 3.2 per cent according to RealClearPolitics' final polling averages in 2016. But there was little indication that Trump would prevail in Wisconsin and Michigan, two traditionally Democratic states that ultimately gave him the edge in the election.
