U.S elections: Trump peaking at the right time? He leads Harris in two major polls

With just days to go until Election Day, the U.S. presidential race is heating up as two major polls reveal a slight lead for former President Donald Trump over Vice President Kamala Harris.

As the U.S. election approaches, former President Donald Trump has gained a narrow lead over Vice President Kamala Harris, according to two significant polls. The Wall Street Journal reported Trump leading Harris by 2%, a reversal from August when Harris was up by 2%. In a survey of 1,500 voters, 47% favored Trump, while 45% backed Harris, though the margin of error keeps the race too close to call.

Harris's Favorability Slips

Harris’s favorability ratings have declined, with 53% of voters viewing her unfavorably, up from 49% in August. In contrast, Trump’s unfavorable rating fell slightly to 50%. The Journal poll shows 42% approve of Harris's performance as VP, while 54% disapprove, likely influenced by economic concerns. Voters’ memories of high inflation under Biden's administration could be impacting Harris’s campaign, giving Trump an edge in voter sentiment.

Economic Trust and Swing State Margins

Trump holds a small advantage in economic trust, with 44% of voters favoring him on the economy, compared to 43% for Harris. Swing states remain highly contested, with Harris narrowly leading in Arizona, Michigan, Nevada, and Pennsylvania, while Trump leads in Georgia, North Carolina, and Wisconsin. Bloomberg’s poll of over 5,300 voters shows Harris ahead by a mere 0.6% in these crucial areas, keeping the competition intense.

While Harris leads on healthcare (51% to 42%) and housing (48% to 43%), Trump leads on interest rates, gas prices, and consumer goods. A CNBC poll shows a “dead heat,” with Trump leading 48% to 47% in battleground states. Nationally, 42% believe they’d fare better financially under Trump, against 24% for Harris, and 29% felt their outlook remains unchanged, leaving the final outcome unpredictable.
