U.S Elections: Are the Democrats over confident of a November win?

Party leaders warned against getting carried away with their excitement and euphoria during the DNC, pointing out that former President Donald J. Trump remains a formidable opponent.

Democrats were warned by former president Obama about the risks. In some specific states, even a handful of votes cast in each precinct could determine the outcome. This election is going to be very close. Democrats were excited again after months of despair and concern before President Joe Biden's resignation. One thought that dominated the minds of the delegates gathered inside the United Center was they could not lose and needed to win no matter what.

Aleksy Federov, a Washington state delegate who recently became a citizen, predicted that Kamala Harris would win with overwhelming margins and it's a generational change in politics. In a series of well-publicized cautions throughout the four-day convention, many Democratic Party veterans issued dire warnings to anyone buying into the cheery notion that Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Vice President Kamala Harris are surefire winners.

Even though former First Lady Michelle Obama acknowledged in a speech on Tuesday night that Democrats were feeling more optimistic, she nevertheless advised party members to contain their enthusiasm by keeping in mind that millions of Americans are committed to seeing Trump win reelection. The dangers of this Democratic moment of relief and joy over Harris were highlighted by Bill Clinton and Michelle Obama's remarks. The 81-year-old Biden is no longer too old to run for office, according to Democratic voters who have been saying this for more than a year. In return, they have a 59-year-old candidate who has turned the 78-year-old Trump on his age. The polls are still close.

Democrats pointed out that there's a thin line separating confidence from overconfidence and that Republicans, who convened in Milwaukee a month before nominating Trump, had also been ecstatic. In an apparent attempt by Democrats to falter under an ageing president, the Republican convention demonstrated a party united behind its nominee.

Recent polls show Trump is falling behind Kamala Harris in five out of seven key swing states. Sen. Chuck Schumer of New York is concerned that some party members are relying too much on Trump's poor performance as the campaign heats up in the fall. Michelle Obama identified concerns about Democrats demanding too much from Harris and Walz. Despite the challenges, delegates remain excited and believe Kamala Harris is winning the elections in November.

The energy in the arena is the same as at Barack Obama's 2008 convention.
