Tyre Nichols died after facing police brutality in Memphis, Tennessee. The camera footage released by police showed the intrinsic details of the attack.

Tyre Nichols, who died on January 10, was tortured by five Black police officers in Memphis, Tennessee. He was calling for his mother during the incident.

At a press conference, his mother RowVaughn Wells said that her 29-year-old son was "damn near perfect."

Nichols was living in Memphis, Tennessee, along with his parents since the pandemic, as per his mother. Earlier, he was residing in California.


Nichols used to work with FedEx alongside his stepfather, Rodney Wells. He was passionate about skateboarding and photography. He engaged in hobbies on weekends, his parents said.

As per Memphis Police, Nichols was pulled over by officers on Friday due to "reckless driving," media reports said.

When the incident happened, he was just 80 yards (73 metres) away from his family home, as per his mother.

After complaining of shortness of breath during the arrest, he was hospitalized in critical condition. He also had Crohn's disease and weighed just 145 pounds, his family and attorneys said. He died three days after the arrest.

Nichols suffered "extensive bleeding caused by a severe beating," as per a preliminary independent autopsy commissioned by the family. He leaves behind a four-year-old son.

The five police officers, who have been charged with second-degree murder and other crimes, are Desmond Mills Jr, Demetrius Haley, Tadarrius Bean, Emmitt Martin III and Justin Smith.
