Camp Flog Gnaw originated in the autumn of 2012 and initially combined elements of a music festival and a carnival featuring games and rides. It was originally called the Odd Future, or OFWGKTA Carnival, named after the Los Angeles-based creative collective that includes Tyler, the Creator, Syd, Frank Ocean, Earl Sweatshirt, and others.
The inaugural festival took place in September 2012 as a one-day event at Club Nokia (now known as the Novo) with a limited number of rap performances. Since then, Camp Flog Gnaw has evolved into a fully-fledged multi-day music festival with multiple stages and a diverse lineup of artists.
During the 2019 edition of Camp Flog Gnaw, notable artists, such as Solange, Juice WRLD, Brockhampton, and FKA twigs performed. The anticipation for a surprise headliner grew, and there were rumors speculating that Frank Ocean would take the stage. However, when Drake emerged instead, the crowd voiced their disappointment by booing him off the stage and chanting for Ocean.
