What began as a hidden affair between a Goodyear executive Chris Delaney and his personal assistant Greet Vandeput has ended in tragedy, after he returned to his high-end Brussels apartment on March 17 to find his wife, Carmel Delaney, dead on the floor, as per a report.

Shocking Discovery

The millionaire, who has served as the president of the company in the Middle East, Africa, and Europe region since 2017, immediately called his secretary, who is also his lover, Greet Vandeput, to inform the police as he cannot speak French, as per Daily Mail.

Initially, Belgian police thought Carmel had been murdered in a burglary because security cameras caught the victim entering the apartment of the couple at about 8 p.m., where she was attacked by an intruder wearing a mask, according to the report.

The Brussels Times revealed at that time, that the police had found that the suspect threatened Carmel to get access to her home before stabbing her three times inside the apartment and running away with three valuable watches worth tens of thousands of Euros, reported Daily Mail. The theft had convinced the police that the crime was targeted, as per the report.

A Sudden Twist After the Funeral

However, two days after Carmel's funeral on April 2, Belgian police arrested Vandeput, Daily Mail reported. The police also found out that the American executive and his assistant were having an affair, according to the report.

The probe turned when a friend of Vandeput reported suspicions that she was involved in Carmel's murder, but is not known what ignited the suspicion, however, it proved helpful, as per Daily Mail.

Stolen Watches Found Hidden at a Horse Stable

That led the cops to search both the home she shares with her husband outside of the city and a closeby horse stable where she had kept two horses, and that's where the stolen watches were found hidden behind a corrugated metal shed in a paddock, reported Daily Mail.

Mysterious Motive

However, the assistant's motivation for allegedly murdering Carmel is not known, the police arrested her as she is charged with murder and "port d’arme par destination", which is a legal term in Belgium meaning the use of an improvised weapon, as per the report.

Chris Delaney and His Lover Fired

The police also questioned Chris in connection with his wife's murder but he has not been charged, according to Daily Mail.

However, Chris and Vandeput have been fired from the tyre manufacturing company, he also did not get severance pay, as per the report. Goodyear informed about his departure in a one-paragraph regulatory filing on April 4, the same day Vandeput was arrested, according to Daily Mail. He then returned to the United States, as per the report.
