Two Valley Starbucks outlets using their own ‘Red Cups’ to join countrywide strike

Every Starbucks location in the United States will celebrate "Red Cup Day" on November 17 by giving away free reusable cups with festive Starbucks designs.

But while supplies last, other businesses are offering an even more exclusive gift.

As part of a state wide walkout, more than 100 unionized Starbucks outlets, including two in the Valley, will be dispensing their own branded "Red Cups" today rather than the corporate design.

The Valley's two participating unionized Starbucks locations are at:

• 10585 W Indian School Rd located in Avondale. The timings are from 5 AM to 7 PM

• 6807 E Baseline Rd located in Mesa. The timings are from 4 AM to 8:30 PM

Starbucks partners are requesting the business meet them at the negotiating table to set greater standards for staffing and scheduling, according to a news released on Thursday morning, along with a number of other bargaining suggestions.



According to reports, Red Cup Day is the most challenging day of the year for retail employees to work because of the increased traffic, particularly when stores are shorthanded.

While working at the unionized Starbucks along Indian School Road, Naomi Martinez stated that it is one of the worst days to be a partner. They have a large influx of customers and really need more work to really support it. They are presenting the cups in a playful way to add lightness to the strike, but they are going to be on the premises all day.
