Two dead as plane crashes near Georgia General Mills factory

Officials have confirmed that about 35 miles east of Atlanta, near a General Mills plant, a small plane crashed in which two people have lost their life.

Captain Ken Malcom, who is from Covington police and looking over the entire case, said, "It is very heartbreaking to see that there are no survivors in this devastating crash."

Fox 5 Atlanta reported that one body had been recovered by crews as of late Thursday night.


Malcom said, "It was a big relief factor that the plane didn't hit the manufacturer's plant, which was very nearby else; there might have been a horrible situation. We are also working on a lead to determine who the victims are in this crash."

The police said, "The plane had departed around 6:45 p.m. from the Covington Municipal Airport."

Malcom describing the entire incident, said, "The plane suddenly swung to the right and immediately started descending straight downwards and finally crashed, leaving a plume of black smoke."

Covington police also informed the local reporters, "The aircraft was a Cessna twin-engine plane that had crashed just off Interstate 20 in an isolated parking lot near the industrial manufacturing plant."

Kelsey Roemhildt, who is the owner of General Mills, said, "We are cooperating with the Federal Aviation Administration and local law enforcement."

Along with that, Kelsey Roemhildt added, "Due to this devastating plane crash, no employees of General Mills have lost their lives, and also there is no damage to the manufacturing facility of General Mills."

The FAA said, "We, along with the National Transportation Safety Board, are investing the entire scenario, and at this point in time, we don't have any additional information."

Along with that FAA confirmed that at around 7 p.m., the plane crash happened near an industrial building. It also said that more information would be released very soon after the investigation of the entire incident.
