Mutulu Shakur has spent more than 36 years in prison. He evaded capture for years after his involvement in a 1981 armored truck robbery. Shakur is dying from bone marrow cancer and was given about six months to live.

Mutulu Shakur, the late artist Tupac Shakur's stepfather, is slated to be released on parole from the Federal Medical Center in Lexington next month after serving more than 36 years in jail and presently suffering from bone cancer. He is scheduled to spend his last days in Southern California with his family.

Shakur, who was formerly on the FBI's top ten most-wanted list, eluded arrest for years after his role in an armoured vehicle heist in 1981 that killed a guard and two police officers.

The 72-year-old is set to be released on December 16 and will be watched and supervised by Global Positioning Systems to stay in a certain region defined by the United States Probation Office.
