Tulsi Gabbard, who is being nominated by US President- elect Donald Trump for the role of Director of National Intelligence (DNI), has eventually faced severe scrutiny regarding her qualifications and understanding of the position, reported Daily Beast.

According to Daily Beast, during meetings with Senate Republicans ahead of her confirmation hearings, Tulsi Gabbard actually struggled to articulate the responsibilities of the DNI and thus failed to distinguish between key surveillance powers. As a result, this raised concerns among numerous senators specifically when Sen. Mike Rounds questioned her ability to meet the statutory requirements for the role.

In spite of her lack of intelligence experience, Tulsi Gabbard's nomination has not encountered outright opposition from Republican senators although some still remain undecided. Notably, she recently shifted her stance on an electronic surveillance program, now supporting it after previously opposing it. This change has led some senators to express cautious optimism about her candidacy, asserted Daily Beast.

Tulsi Gabbard, who is a former Democratic congresswoman and Army Reserve lieutenant colonel eventually has been criticized for her past comments that align with Kremlin narratives and her controversial meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in the year 2017, noted Daily Beast. While she has garnered some support within the Republican Party, severe concerns about her suitability for overseeing 18 intelligence agencies still persist.
