Trumpet, a Bloodhound wins The Westminster Kennel Dog Show

This year to everyone’s surprise Trumpet the Bloodhound was declared the winner of the prestigious Westminster Dog show this year. Trumpet was declared the winner out of quite a few winnable canines. There was stiff competition from Winston, a French Bulldog, and Striker a Samoyed. But eventually, the winning cup went to Trumpet.

He had a lot to pose on the podium that was strewn with ribbons and a huge silver cup, looking every bit the champion. Trumpet’s handler Heather Buehner says she was shocked that Trumpet won the trophy as the other fellow dogs were really beautiful canines as well. She felt a bloodhound is kind of an underdog so to speak because of its large size and a huge grumpy face. So that was a really thrilling experience for her. Winston, a rather happy French Bulldog won the second prize.

The dog show was shifted to Lyndhurst for pandemic reasons from the Madison Square Garden earlier. This is the second time in a row that Lyndhurst hosted this wonderful event. In the evening Frank Sinatra sang “New York New York” as the Empire State building lit up in purple to commemorate the event.


The handsome canine, Trumpet was probably not the first choice of the audience, who seemed to like Striker the Samoyed. Striker had reached the finals last year as well but was edged out by a Pekingese called Wasabi. Trumpet’s great grandfather it is said, had the longest ears measuring 13.5 inches on the left and 13.75 inches on the right. So the champion DNA has been rightly handed down to Trumpet after all.
