Is Trump missing Elon Musk? Lip reader reveals what US President told the world’s richest man at Charlie Kirk memorial

Tens of thousands of mourners, including President Donald Trump and members of his administration, gathered in Glendale on Sunday, September 21, to honor the life of prominent conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The 31-year-old co-founder of Turning Point USA was tragically assassinated on September 10.

The memorial service at State Farm Stadium featured speeches from elected officials, faith leaders, Kirk’s colleagues, and loved ones, while supporters held up signs and waved American flags. Many speakers highlighted Kirk’s religious faith and his role as a leading voice for young conservative activists within the "Make America Great Again" movement.

Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk, delivered an emotional eulogy, at times choking up and dabbing her eyes with a handkerchief. She received a standing ovation after declaring of her husband’s killer: “I forgive him.”


Another notable moment came when President Trump met with Elon Musk. The two were seen shaking hands and conversing, while Trump was also seen patting the legs of the world’s richest man. Musk previously led the so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) during the early months of Trump’s second administration.

A video of the two was shared by the official White House account on social media platform X, which Musk owns. Musk himself also tweeted a photo of them and wrote, “For Charlie.”

What did Musk say to Trump?

An X user claimed a lip reader decoded what the two are talking about and posted it on X. As per him, Trump greeted Musk with a casual, “How are you doing?” before adding, “So Elon, I’ve heard you wanted to chat.”

He then leaned in with a suggestion: “Let’s try and work out how to get back on track.” Musk simply nodded in response, as Trump tapped his hand and said, “I’ve missed you.”

Musk’s 270 million donation to Trump’s campaign and the rift

Musk donated more than $270 million to Trump’s presidential campaign and helped barnstorm key battleground states for the Republican. After the election, he oversaw the launch of the controversial DOGE initiative, which cut thousands of government jobs deemed wasteful.

However, Musk later broke with Trump over the White House’s tax and spending bill, calling it out and accusing Trump of being named in the so-called “Epstein files.” In July, Trump said he would “take a look” at the idea of deporting Musk. Musk even announced plans for an “America First” party.
