Trump minion AI video goes viral as Strait of Hormuz shipping crisis continues
The Iranian Embassy in Russia released an AI-made video showing Donald Trump as a “minion” from Despicable Me on Wednesday. In the video, a cartoon Trump is floating on a wooden plank next to a US flag and says he will “count to three” and expects the Strait to open. After he speaks, nothing happens, showing that his demand has no effect.

Another group of minions on a separate plank represents countries like the UK, France, Japan, UAE, and Qatar, and they start cheering, as stated by NDTV. Then an “Iranian minion” presses a red button and laughs as a warning tape drops across the Strait, showing Iran’s control. The Trump character keeps saying the Strait will open, but Iran keeps adding more warning tapes instead. This makes the other minions frustrated, showing rising tension in a funny way.

AI video mocking Trump

The video is part of a larger set of satirical propaganda clips released by Iran during the conflict to mock and weaken Trump’s image. On the same day, Trump posted on Truth Social saying he is “permanently opening” the Strait of Hormuz. He also claimed that the important sea route will never be blocked again. But real conditions show that normal shipping has still not started properly in the Strait.

Strait of Hormuz importance

The Strait of Hormuz is a very important route connecting the Persian Gulf to the open ocean. Around 20% of the world’s oil and LNG (gas) passes through this narrow waterway, as cited by NDTV. The problem started when Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps blocked ships it saw as hostile. This action came after tensions increased between Iran, the US, and Israel. Because of this, daily ship movement dropped heavily from over 130 vessels to much lower numbers.

A two-week ceasefire has been active since April 8, but the situation has not improved much. Shipping traffic is still about 90% lower than normal times. Data from Kpler shows only 58 cargo ships have passed through since the ceasefire began. Most of these ships were either linked to Iran or from countries that Iran does not consider enemies.
