President Trump has threatened to walk away from his much- hyped Alaska summit if his talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin tank and no peace deal is struck to halt the Russia- Ukraine stalemate, Newsweek reported.

When did Trump claimed a possible walk-out

Talking to conservative media network Fox news—aboard the Air Force One on his way to Alaska—President Trump cast aspersions on his prolonged stay at the summit if a deal of his choice ain’t brokered. A video clip now doing the rounds on X—shows the POTUS in conversation with Fox New’s Bret Baier. "work out very well — and if it doesn't, I'm going to head back home real fast." Trump told Baier while referring to his meeting with Putin.

When Baier asked a follow up query, essentially asking the POTUS to confirm his intention to walk away, Trump replied, "I would walk, yeah." Further clearing the air on what hopes he has off the summit, Trump said that he is just here to see through a stoppage of the mass killings. "I want to see a ceasefire rapidly. I don't know if it's going to be today but I'm not going to be happy if it's not today. I'm in this to stop the killing," he said in another clip, posted from his own X account.

What's at stake for Donald Trump in Alaska

Trump has tried to play down expectations of a peace deal-- pinged on the Alaska summit--previously saying that he sees a 25% chance of a breakthrough being reached between him and President Putin in Alaska. However, with the POTUS desperately gunning for a Nobel Peace Prize, reports say that this deal is the president’s only realistic chance of hitting the bull’s eye.

His role in stopping the prolonged Russia- Ukraine war could even prompt a nomination from unlikely faces and serial detractors, with even Trump’s 2016 election rival Hilary Clinton saying on a podcast that the POTUS could have her support for the Nobel Prize if he manages to strike a deal while having Ukraine retain all it’s territories.

The summit wont see Ukrainian president Zelensky make a visit, but he and European leaders remain in close contact with Trump, stressing that Ukraine must be included in negotiations. Some critics worry Trump might give in to Putin, partly because he has praised Putin before and criticized Zelensky in the past.
