Donald Trump was not a fan of the portrait of himself that hangs in Colorado's State Capitol, and he made sure everyone knew. After years of complaints, the artwork has finally been replaced. However, if the goal was to create a more accurate likeness, public reaction indicates that the jury is still out.

Why was Donald Trump unhappy with the first portrait?

After Donald Trump complained that his portrait in the Colorado State Capitol was "distorted," lawmakers replaced it with a new one. The new portrait, painted by Vanessa Horabuena and donated by the White House, is eliciting laughs and memes online, with some claiming it is just as bizarre as the previous one.

Who painted the older version?

Legislators in Colorado learned of this earlier this year when Trump complained that a portrait of himself on display in the state capitol for almost six years was "purposefully distorted."

The portrait's painter, Sarah Boardman, claimed to have "completed the portrait accurately, without 'purposeful distortion,' political bias, or any attempt to caricature the subject, actual or implied," but her views were dismissed, as per a report by BuzzFeed.

It appears that the lawmakers' complaints were successful because they promptly declared that Boardman's portrait would be taken down and replaced with one that more closely matched the president's preferences.

With the beard and purported "guyliner" removed, Trump's previous portrait made him look like JD Vance, but the new one makes him look like Keith Morrison from NBC Dateline. Since art is subjective, many people's opinions of the new portrait varied.
