Trump gets rousing applause and ‘USA, USA’ chants at Yankee stadium a day after Charlie Kirk shooting and less than a week after US Open boos

President Donald Trump was back in New York on Thursday, September 11, for a Yankee game set to commemorate 9/11. Trump was attending the game just a day after Turning Point USA founder and his close ally Charlie Kirk was assassinated at a Utah Valley University event. The President received a more positive reception than during his last visit to the city less than a week earlier, during the US Open final match between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.

As seen in a tweet by Rapid Response 47, he was met with the chant, "USA! USA!" It posted the announcement, "The New York @Yankees welcome back to Yankee Stadium the 45th and 47th President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, on the solemn anniversary of September 11, 2001."

People in the comment section noted the fact Trump was visibly upset; one user commented, "Praying for our President. He looks so sad. Having a big and loving heart, like his, makes carrying the burden of grief very heavy.”




Referring to the recent murder of the conservative activist, Charlie Kirk, another user commented, “He definitely has a sad look on his face... I'm guessing he's still shoked by Charlie's death…”

Earlier in the day, Trump spoke at the Pentagon about the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was close to many in the Trump world, including Vice President JD Vance and the president's oldest son, Donald Jr.

On Wednesday, the 31-year-old was at Utah Valley University on one of those campus visits when he was shot and killed. Kirk was taken to the hospital immediately after the shooter's single bullet hit his neck.

Trump made a number of comments regarding Kirk's killing on social media and earlier Thursday at a 9/11 event held at the Pentagon, one of the locations where Al Qaeda terrorists attacked in 2001. He spoke to reporters as he departed Washington for New York on Thursday night, but he did not discuss the shooting during Thursday's game, as per the Independent.

Trump's attendance at Thursday's Yankees vs. Detroit Tigers game was his second event in remembrance of the deadly September 11th terrorist attacks in Washington and New York.
