Europe held off a thrilling US rally to retain the Ryder Cup on Sunday, with Irishman Shane Lowry sealing the victory with a dramatic six-foot birdie putt. Lowry’s clutch putt earned a half-point alongside American Russell Henley, giving Europe a 14-11 lead with three matches remaining - enough to keep the trophy following their 2023 win in Rome.

Europe needed just 14 points to retain the Cup, while the US required 14.5 for the greatest final-day comeback in Ryder Cup history.

This triumph marked Europe’s 11th win in the last 15 Cups and their fourth road victory in that span, the first since the 2012 'Miracle at Medinah'. Although the US still leads the overall series 27-16-2, Europe has dominated since expanding beyond Britain and Ireland in 1979, leading 13-9-1 in the modern era.

MCILROY SLAMS RYDER CUP HECKLING

Rory McIlroy voiced his frustration with Ryder Cup hecklers after a week marked by taunts, insults, and even a beer thrown at his wife, Erica. The situation escalated to the point where extra police, accompanied by dogs, escorted McIlroy over the weekend.

McIlroy condemned the behavior, calling for actions that cross the line to be banned from the sport.

"I don't think we should ever accept that in golf. I think golf should be held to a higher standard than what was seen out there this week," said McIlroy.

"Golf has the ability to unite people.... It teaches you how to respect people. Sometimes this week we didn't see that. This should not be what is acceptable in the Ryder Cup."
